DynaPortal Software Co. Upgrades its ASP and Hosting Infrastructure
New Servers, More Available Bandwidth, Backup Power, and Redundancy To Assure Reliability
September 1, 2003
DynaPortal Software Company is pleased to announce an upgrade to its server and connectivity infrastructure. The company has hosted Web sites for its clients and partners since February 1996, focusing on cost effective, reliable site hosting and related services such as email and site visitor tracking metrics. The company began offering services as an application service provider (ASP) in June 2000, offering leased licensing with hosting for affordable monthly fees. Since that time, the company has experienced growth for these services not only in the the number of clients, but also in traffic volume from existing clients.
Besides migrating to new, more powerful servers, the new infrastructure includes:
- Routers
All internal routers are Cisco with redundant cards and dual power supplies. Hot swap spares are maintained and a 24/7, four hour replacement program is in effect.
- Switches and Internal Network
The core backbone is handled by Nortel routing switches with dual redundant CPUs and power supplies with 8 Gb switched fabric back planes interconnected via fiber. Hot swap spares are maintained for all switching and network infrastructure.
- Connectivity
The primary connection is a 100 MPS direct fiber drop (non-telco) provided by Comcast Business Communications. In case of telco failure, systems remain unaffected. The secondary connection, a redundant 45 MBPS (telco) circuit provides transport via the AT&T backbone directly to the AT&T Carrier Class facility in Washington, DC. In case of fiber break, the systems remain completely unaffected. Lucent Technologies multiplexers handle line channelization for the inbound telco connections.
- Internet Routing
Through the use of a specialized Global Routing system, traffic can be managed not only on BGP4 # of hops calculations but actual latency metrics to thousands of major networks around the world. This allows Internet brownouts to be avoided and automatically reroutes traffic that could otherwise cause performance problems for your users.
- Self-healing Servers
Our servers were placed in service in September 2003 and run self-healing software that recovers from 90% of all problems automatically.
- Backup Power
UPS battery backup power as the first level with a 40,000 WATT Elliott MagneTek natural gas backup generator that allows 180 days of power with no external power. - Environmental Controls
The data center environmental systems are controlled by a large scale Liebert cooling system that maintains constant temperature and humidity 24 hours a day.
- Firewall and Intrusion Detection
A Cisco IOS firewall performs basic firewall, packet filtering, and port filtering to stop level 1 attacks. A Cisco intrusion detection system monitors the most common hack attempts and automatically takes action to block attackers if there is a justifiable threat. Additional intrusion detection and port monitoring software catch any potential attacks that may have slipped through the firewall.
- Anti-Virus
All file systems are scanned in real-time for viruses. Incoming and outgoing emails are scanned prior to delivery to any mailbox. Virus pattern files are updated every 24 hours.
- Daily Backups
Daily differential and weekly full backups are performed using Veritas software and HP tape libraries. Tapes are taken offsite on a weekly basis for disaster recovery purposes.
Hosting operations technical support is available 24/7.
